The Guadalhorce Green Corridor project will ensure that Malaga will have the largest river park in Spain and one of the largest in Europe. It will connect the new 270-meter long Guadalhorce coastal pedestrian bridge with the Camino del Rey located at the Ardales reservoirs more than 50 minutes inland. The project will be carried out over a period of approximately 5 years. During this period, the river banks will be repaired, new infrastructure such as cycling, walking paths and bridges will be constructed and knowledge centers will be built.

In the total area of 4.5 million square meters, a total of more than 190 kilometers of cycling and walking paths and 16 footbridges will connect the various nature reserves. The main goal of the project is to restore nature and open it to the public in a responsible manner. To restore nature, much is being done to clean up and restore the Guadalhorce and other connected rivers. There will also be a start in many places with replanting the local indigenous vegetation.

The project, which is estimated at approximately 200 million euros, will include 3 visitor centers.

The first center is the current Camino del Rey visitor center, which will be expanded so that it can also provide information about the entire park. The second center will be in the center of the park where the Rio Grande flows into the Gaudalhorce River. This area has a very diverse flora and fauna and is therefore very suitable for the construction of a new knowledge center. The third visitor center will be built at the Phoenician settlement of Cerro del Villar. After the construction of the senda litoral along the coast, this is the next major project which ensures that various areas are connected to each other via walking and cycling paths. The Provincial Council hopes to further promote domestic tourism through the construction of the park.
